She’s been gracing television screens for 21 years and now everyone’s favourite, muddy puddle-loving pig is back, delighting tiny audience members with the new stage show, Peppa Pig’s Fun Day Out LIVE.
Review by Lisa Bachmayer
This delightful introduction to live theatre sees Peppa, her family and friends bring their audience along on a big adventure, visiting the zoo, the beach and finally a surprise party.
Based on the much-loved animated children’s series, this new live show combines life-sized puppetry and original voiceovers with singing, dancing and spectacular sets and visual effects to bring Peppa and her fellow cast members to life.
Entertaining a theatre packed full of toddlers and preschoolers – not known for their listening or sitting skills – is no easy feat, but Peppa, her family and friends manage to do it almost effortlessly.
There were plenty of “oohs”, “aahs” and general squeals of excitement from the little ones around us, especially the four-year-old girl sitting behind us, in raptures over the action happening on stage in front of her.
My own two (almost three) year old, who tends to be incapable of sitting still for longer than four seconds, was happily entranced by Peppa and her friends.
There were several opportunities for audience engagement, with little ones and their caregivers encouraged to take part in games, songs and dances, doubling as a chance for restless toddlers to get their wriggles out.
Any adults pretending not to know the Bing Bong song had no excuse not to get involved, with the lyrics helpfully provided on stage for everyone to singalong to. Plus, it’s rather catchy!
Of particular note was the fabulous combination of puppetry, set design and visual effects, with audience members of all ages (including myself) delighted by scenes involving feeding penguins, meeting other zoo residents and dancing jellyfish, among others.
The show was advertised as being 75 minutes long, with two 30-minute acts and an intermission in the middle, though it went a little over that. It is ideal for any Peppa-loving toddler or preschooler.
Peppa Pig’s Fun Day Out LIVE! is a delightfully sweet and fun introduction to live theatre for little ones and a special treat for all the family.
