CultureSpace – Persian Tigan Festival

Come to the Migration Museum on Sunday 10th July from 1 to 3pm to celebrate the Persian Tirgan Festival as part of the CultureSpace program of community celebrations. The event has been developed in partnership with the Persian Cultural Association of SA Inc. The Migration Museum is all about celebrating the diversity of South Australia, which makes it the perfect location to celebrate Tirgan. Be prepared for musical and dance performances, costume demonstrations, kids activities and more. Learn how to write your name in Persian language, hear about the history of Iran & Persia and see some traditional handicrafts up close.

Tirgan has its origins as an ancient festival, there are many legends associated with it. One story describes how Iran and Turan decided to declare peace by drawing the boundaries between the two empires. Arash, the best archer in the Iranian army, was chosen to climb Mount Damavand and shoot an arrow that would determine the boundary lines. Iranians watched as the arrow flew from dawn until noon, increasing the boundaries of Iran. What resulted was the inclusion of many diverse cultures throughout the territory of Iran. Tirgan became a celebration of diversity.

This is a chance to embrace and experience Persian culture and community first hand.

What is CultureSpace?
