Cherry Picking around Adelaide and Cherry Shed Door Sales
There’s nothing that says summer more than when fresh, juicy, red, sweet, local cherries are available. When the cherry season arrives it reminds us that Christmas is near.
If you love eating cherries, a fun way to get them is to pick your own. Similar to picking strawberries at Beerenberg, this is a great family outdoor activity to enjoy together around the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula.
Before you go and visit our wonderful cherry growers, please double-check directly with the farm to ensure they are open for business, and are not all ‘picked out’ before you leave.
COVID 19 – Be Safe & Have Fun
This season is a little different, but all the orchards will be doing their best to provide a safe environment. They ask you to also do your bit to keep yourself and your community safe. Avoid crowding with other groups and maintain physical distancing. Please follow any signage and on-site directions. If you have experienced a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath or travelled overseas in the past month, please do no visit.
Pick Your Own
Picking cherries in the outdoors is a low risk activity, but please follow directions from the orchard owner and avoid crowding.
Please check the Fresh Cherries App for opening times and availability. Some farms may require you to book ahead.
Where to go for ‘Pick Your Own’ Cherries
?Please note that the orchards are all open at different times – many don’t do ‘Pick Your Own’ until after Christmas. Cherry supply is dependent on demand and when different varieties of cherries are ripe.
?Refer to the Cherry Map for all the details.
?You can also download the Fresh Cherries App on Google Play or the App Store. Click the links below to download.
The Cherry Growers Association of South Australia publish a ‘Cherry Map’ each year which is a great guide to where you can buy cherries from the ‘shed door’ and also which orchards are open for the public to ‘Pick Your Own’.

Tips for picking cherries
? Wear closed flat shoes when you are picking your own cherries, as well as a hat and sunscreen.
?Our tip would also be to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, especially the kids – juicy red cherries are delicious but they can stain clothes.
? Also bring your own bags, boxes and/or esky to transport your cherries home.
?Take cash – some orchards don’t have eftpos facilities, but this may change due to COVID.
?You can also take a picnic to enjoy while you are there. The orchards are a great place to explore – look out for koalas and other wildlife at some places.
Important: Remember to check first with the cherry orchard via their website, Facebook page or ring them (contact details are given above and in the Cherry Map) to make sure they have ripe cherries available to pick BEFORE travelling there. Cherries, like all fruit, are dependent on weather conditions and some orchards may get busy and sell out.
