Adelaide Airport’s Plaza Premium Lounge is your destination for pre-flight food in a calm and comfortable place.

Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji

A couple of weeks ago we went on our first international trip as a family of four. We had previously been to Bali with our eldest daughter but sadly due to illness, the dreaded C-word and life getting in the way, we were yet to leave the country with our youngest daughter. When we stumbled upon an incredible deal on a Jetstar holiday staying at an ultra-kid friendly resort in Bali, we decided it was the perfect time to embark on an international adventure.

To kick our holiday off with a bang and ease our pre-travel nerves we chose to visit the Plaza Premium Lounge before our departure and boy are we glad that we did!

Plaza Premium Lounge is the world’s first and largest award-winning independent airport lounge network and it just so happens Adelaide has them in the international and domestic terminals. Being an independent network also means that travellers can access the lounge without having to be a member or fly with a certain airline to gain access. You can decide on the day and purchase a walk-in pass or pre-purchase an advanced pass on the website (the website will give you a price before confirming your booking).

Stepping inside the lounge we were greeted by a friendly staff member that welcomed us and gave us a run-down of the facilities. There were a number of seating options ranging from comfy lounge chairs, tables and chairs set up for dining and lounge chairs positioned right in-front of the floor to ceiling windows for the ultimate plane spotting experience. As we were travelling in the afternoon right around dinner time, we found the closest table to the food, put our things down and made a bee-line for the buffet.

Some of the options available to us were cold meats and salad, antipasto, hot chips, samosas, chicken and corn soup, pasta, noodles, curry and rice as well as a small section of sweet treats. The kids loved the buffet aspect of the lounge and we all enjoyed the spicy chicken curry with rice and vegetables. For drinks we had access to unlimited chilled juice, soft drinks, tea and coffee from an automated machine. There is also the option to upgrade to a premium package that includes barista-made coffee and a selection of alcoholic beverages.

Apart from the delicious food and beverage options, we loved having a calm quiet space to relax before the flight with free high speed WIFI, multiple charging stations, televisions, books, colouring in for kids and a selection of magazines to read while you wait. There were food options to suit all of our family and it was such a fun experience having access to a delicious buffet where the kids could try food items and come back multiple times for foods that they liked. We also noticed a pancake maker which is available during the morning and feel this would be a fun option for morning flights.

Last but not least the staff were so accommodating at the Plaza Premium Lounge. They set our kids up with whatever channel they wanted to watch, refilled whatever food they liked and even make our daughters hot chocolates. They are also more than happy to answer questions about dietary requirements and gave me a run down on the halal friendly options before I even had to ask alongside gluten free items.

We found visiting the Plaza Premium Lounge in the International terminal convenient and comfortable because it meant that we didn’t have to rush to make dinner and clean up before we left. It also meant we weren’t arguing over takeaway airport food and were able to enjoy a bunch of food and drink offerings in a relaxed setting before boarding.

  • Baby change facilities inside the International Terminal
  • High chairs are available
