Puddle Duck Café | Rymill Park Adelaide | Review

There is plenty to love about Adelaide’s new Puddle Duck Café at Rymill Park!

Located in beautiful Rymill Park in a totally transformed old kiosk space, the vibe is chic, family-friendly and offers lake side drinks and dining that makes you want to linger longer.

Rymill Park is an iconic spot for locals due to its convenient city location, peaceful setting, playground and lovely little lake that is always filled with ducks. This new lakeside café not only adds to the appeal of the parklands but it provides the perfect place for people to gather and make new memories in a treasured spot with shiny new facilities that somehow feel like they blend into the existing location effortlessly.

We visited on opening weekend and instantly loved what we saw. Puddle Duck is surrounded by trees adorned with fairy lights, there is indoor and outdoor dining, pretty umbrellas set up and even a selection of lawn games for young and old to enjoy. There are sweet little nods to the boathouse theme filtered throughout the space with rope and paddles serving as an impromptu fence, a timber boat in the bathroom and cute duck printed designs.

Moving onto the food the menu features kiosk favourites such as bagels, crumpets, granola and picnic plates, there are hot dogs, park snacks, sweet treats and a selection of kids menu item. We tried the potato gems and they were a hit! We also enjoyed the chicken nuggs, classic fries, coffee and the strawberry matcha with cold foam was absolutely delicious. Something else that we will be coming back for is the donut fingers with roasted banana custard and cinnamon sugar. Puddle Duck is also a licensed venue so if you are in the mood for a cocktail, wine, beer or spritz, they have you covered.

After sitting and enjoying the food, playing some lawn games and making friends with the resident ducks we took a stroll to visit the nearby Quentin Kenihan inclusive playspace. This playground is just behind Puddle Duck and a must visit stop with kids, not only is it inclusive, it is also fully fenced, shaded, has multiple chairs, tables and BBQs, toilets and fun facilities for all ages and abilities.

We loved revisiting Rymill Park and discovering its new addition. Between the café, lake and playground, there’s so much for families to enjoy. We’re already looking forward to coming back and making more memories with our kids!

Puddle Duck is run by the Peter Rabbit team who also have a cafe in Hindley Street.

What we like about it:

• The potato gems with aioli, the matcha and coffee, the lovely lakeside setting 
• We loved the lawn games and being so close to an awesome playground

Things to consider:

• We visited at the end of September on opening weekend and it was really breezy, the restaurant is quite open so it can get cold
• There are high chairs, baby change facilities and accessible toilets 
• The cafe is right next to a lake with no fence so its important to keep an eye on young kids 
• They currently do not offer colouring in for kids but this is coming
