Join in at the City Library for free fun school holiday virtual excursions to the ever popular Questacon – the National Science & Technology Centre in Canberra.
Using the magic of video conferencing, children are able to connect & interact with Questacon presenters on two exciting excursions. These virtual excursions are the first activities in the Library’s Video Conferencing the World series, which expands the world we live in by connecting people with communities & exciting opportunities using video conferencing technology in the Library’s Digital Hub.
Foldable Flight
Ever wondered how a plane flies? What better way to find out than making your own! In this session, children will get to make their own paper aeroplane, test it out, and refine it to make the best plane ever! Along the way, they’ll get to learn more about the four forces acting on a plane when it flies – gravity, lift, thrust and drag.

Under the Sea
Our oceans are vast, and mysterious. Around 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, and yet we know more about the surface of Mars than we do about our deep oceans. In this session, children will learn about some of the amazing creatures that live in the ocean, and do experiments that will explore some of the properties of the ocean that make it hard to explore. Participants will even get to attempt making their own submarine!
