REM+ Tuition Pre-School Reading Programme
Starting School in 2021?
REM+ Tuition’s Pre-School Phonics Reading Programme, written by Jenny Allen (Director of REM+ Tuition) is specifically for pre-readers and beginning readers from 4½ years of age.
The aim of this programme is to prepare young children for reading and for school in such a way that they will be full of confidence in themselves as learners and readers.
The programme uses phonics to develop children’s ability to identify individual sounds in words, and then to blend these into simple, meaningful words. The course focuses on interactivity and hands-on fun, and phonics are also used to develop reading and writing skills. The programme also establishes the foundations that enable pre-school children to become successful spellers.
Classes are small (with a maximum of four students) and this helps children not only to learn the decoding skills needed to read confidently, but also gives them a positive attitude towards learning.
Pre-school children become able to develop and understand:
• the sounds made by each vowel and consonant
• the beginning, middle and ending sounds in words
• alphabet knowledge
• rhyming words
• a short list of basic sight words
• blending sounds together to make simple words
• reading and writing letters
• reading short stories
Classes, which are 1 hour in length, will run throughout Terms 3 and 4 in 2020 in advance of children starting school in 2021.
Parents are welcome to attend, and there are both morning and afternoon sessions available.
