Rex Jones Reserve & Playground | North Plympton | Review

The Rex Jones Reserve and Playground is fully fenced, full of fun play equipment, and has plenty of shady trees and room to run about.

Review by Claire Davill

This fully fenced playground has a variety of equipment, with some accessible features. It’s a quiet park with all the facilities you need – toilets, picnic shelters, room to run around, a small “forest” of trees and a tennis court.

The main playground equipment includes two slides, plenty of climbing rope nets and ladders, and an inclined bridge leading up to the top tower.

There are a couple of “wobbly seats” in the playground, a fully accessible merry-go-round, basket swing, regular swing and toddler swing. A rubber soft-fall path connects the swings to the equipment and the merry-go-round.

A separate gated entrance takes you to the liberty swing, suitable for wheelchair users.

A picnic shelter sits by the liberty swing, and the toilets are not far away. Across the large lawned area is a tennis court.

Things to Consider:

  • The playground is fully fenced, but the rest of the park is not.
  • There are no shade sails over the playground, but the surrounding trees provide plenty of shade
  • There are often woodchips over the rubber soft-fall path which may impede accessibility
  • This park is close to the Westside Bikeway, a bike path that follows the old Holdfast Bay railway corridor

Location:

Allchurch Ave, North Plympton. Parking is available along Allchurch Ave, Park Terrace and Talbot Ave.
