The Sand Pirates of St Kilda Exhibition | Salisbury | 13 Jan – 15 Feb 2026
Watch ordinary sand transform into an extraordinary spectacle as Australia’s leading sand sculpting specialists, Sandstorm Events, build a giant live sand sculpture, telling the fictional tale of The Sand Pirates of St Kilda.
This January school holidays the City of Salisbury is hosting something truly special at the Salisbury Community Hub. Standing an impressive 3 metres high and 4.8 metres wide, the sculpture will draw inspiration from Salisbury’s own St Kilda Playground. The Sand Pirates of St Kilda follows Captain Tide Break and his crew on a moonlit adventure in search of the Pearl of Friendship, hidden deep within Salisbury Castle.
Families are invited to drop in and watch the sculpture take shape live during construction, then return to admire the finished artwork on display.

Live Sculpting Experience
Construction will take place from Tuesday 13 January to Thursday 22 January 2026, giving visitors the rare opportunity to see expert sculptors at work as the artwork slowly comes to life inside the Hub.
Once complete, the finished sculpture will remain on display with free entry until Sunday 15 February 2026, making it a perfect indoor activity for families, friends and visitors of all ages. Bookings are not required.

School Holiday Fun
The exhibition will be supported by a range of themed school holiday programs, designed to spark creativity, imagination and sensory play. Keep an eye on their school holiday program page for program details.
Please note:
- All materials used in the sand sculpture meet approved safety standards in line with industry regulations.
- During the installation period, some areas of the Salisbury Community Hub may be temporarily adjusted. Library collections will remain accessible within the building.
- After the exhibition concludes, the sand will be repurposed for future Council projects, ensuring it continues to be put to good use.
