Revolution 2014
We visited Woodhouse in the Adelaide Hills when Scouts aged 6 to 11 years and their parents and leaders held a Revolution in March 2014. A mini township was created overnight to house and feed 3,000 kids plus parents and leaders from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.
Well, what a sight it was to see. Our Play & Go kids were hooked right from the start at the rock climbing wall.
From there we visited the several themed activity areas, each with unique fun activities to participate in. For example this Treasure Island had an obstacle course, complete with pirates who manually pulled the kids in a boat/cart across the crocodile infested ‘waters’ at the end.
Think 2,500 litres of milk; 4,500 eggs; 112kg bacon; 300 lettuce, 255 cucumbers; 1200kg fruit; 6,000 snags; 3,000 hamburgers; 15,200 tent pegs for over 1,000 tents and a truckload of fun!
The setting of Woodhouse in Piccadilly is nothing short of spectacular and is a perfect spot for the Scouts head quarters. It’s 54 hectares of beautiful undulating countryside and trees. Check out this tall tree forest where more challenge zones hid.
Here there was an obstacle course, very ‘Survivor’ style, where kids donned camouflage paint on their faces when entering. They were attached together with rope around the waist to manouvre the obstacle as a team. Like others, this course took months of planning and 2 days to install.
This Angry Bird inspired game involved slingshots of balls hurled at these guys below.
Each Scout group moved from one station to the next to experience all the different activities available.
One of the highlights of Woodhouse is the amazing Challenge Hill obstacle course. It can take one to two hours to complete and is a favourite amongst kids who may have visited on a school excursion. The pics below are of a very small section of it.
As you can see there is a lot of muddy fun on a weekend like this.
While the very young kids had parents go along, most of the older kids were on this camp without their parents. As you can imagine it’s a huge task to coordinate and feed so many kids.
The 15 metre high tower and huge 320 metre flying fox which runs off it is operated separately by Venture who also run High Ropes courses and Low Ropes courses at Woodhouse in amongst the forests.
With amazing activities and adventure around every corner – it was outdoor play at its finest that’s sure to create lifelong memories for all those that attended.
Revolution 2014 is the biggest Scouting event for South Australia during the year with the combined Hoporee and Cuboree camps joining forces to create one awesome action-packed weekend for everyone involved.
