Adelaide Festival Centre’s Something on Saturday Fun for Families
For over 40 years, Something on Saturday has enchanted thousands of children with memorable live performances and craft workshops during the winter months.
In 2019, this family favourite will become an annual program of carefully curated events especially for young people. From performances to exhibitions and hands on arts and crafts, this is every child’s chance to experience the transformative world of the arts.
Kids Corner Workshops:
For many of the Something on Saturday events, there are FREE workshops themed around the performance. The Kids Corner Workshops are funded by the Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation. The Foundation raises funds for projects that inspire young people through the arts. For this reason, workshops are free.
The Children’s University:
All Something on Saturday performances are validated by Children’ University Adelaide. In order to receive a stamp in your Passport to Learning for any performances, members must complete a Performance Review. For more information visit the Children’s University Australia website HERE and search for ‘Adelaide Festival’.
UNESCO:
Something on Saturday’s music program is contributing to the vibrancy of Adelaide’s music culture for children and their families. They are proud to support the designation of Adelaide as a UNESCO City of Music.
The Something on Saturday Program so far:
Sunday 10 February 2019 | Chinese New Year Concert & Come and Try Workshops
Celebrate the Year of the Pig with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra at this family event that draws on both the old and new, from China and the West. Come and try free cultural workshops, including calligraphy writing, mask painting, music and stories, before celebrating the Year of the Pig with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

Thursday 14 – Sunday 17 March 2019 | Zizanie
This exciting new work for all ages created by Australian dance icon, Meryl Tankard for Adelaide’s own Restless Dance Theatre, celebrates the beauty in difference and reminds us of Grayson Perry’s inimitable words that “weeds are just flowers in the wrong garden.”
