South Australian Museum Reopening
In response to the South Australian Government’s Roadmap for easing COVID-19 restrictions, the South Australian Museum has announced it will reopen to the public on Monday 8 June.
After two months with its doors closed, the South Australian Museum is gearing up to reopen this Queen’s Birthday public holiday. With an approved capacity of 80 people at one time, changes have been made to ensure a safe and comfortable visit for everyone.
There will also be a reduction in touchscreens and increased social distancing and hygiene guidance.
However, there will be lots to keep visitors busy on the Museum lawns while waiting such as a smoking ceremony held by Uncle Mickey O’Brien, Senior Kaurna and Narrunga man to acknowledge the uncertain times the pandemic has brought. There will also be a free episode of Bluey on the big screen on the front lawns. SAM Coffee hut will open at 9am with puppucinos and a BBQ will kick off from 11am. Plus, stop by the tent to pick up takeaway activities to do at home including colouring-in sheets.
Given the limited capacity, the front lawns will be transformed into a social distancing dream with the help of Lange Signco who are painting large colourful triangles based on the Museum’s logo. This provides a visual guide to assist visitors to safely measure their distance from others while enjoying the lawns.
The Dogs: a story of our best friend exhibition has been extended until Sunday 2 August 2020 and the McMahon Collection exhibition until 31 July 2020.
Whilst the South Australian Museum has been closed it launched Content for Connection, which included their digital April School Holiday online program. The online portal for the Museum’s stories, exhibitions, programs, research and more is accessible from the comfort of visitor’s homes. The museum will continue to deliver this online content.
The museum understands that nothing compares to a visit where your imagination runs wild exploring the wonders of the five floors. So, when you’re ready, they’re excited to welcome you all back.
