Tea for Two | Tea Tree Gully Museum | Review

The Tea Tree Gully Museum has done it again and delivered the sweetest tea-themed event that was a hit for young and old alike! There was indoor exploration, so many opportunities to play and green space that provided the perfect backdrop for Devonshire tea, a frolic in the garden and even the opportunity to see a blacksmith in action.

Every single time my family and I visit the Tea Tree Gully Museum we leave happy, impressed by what we have discovered and excited to visit when they open up again in a month’s time with a totally new theme. The Tea for Two event was no exception and turned out to be the sweetest little mother-daughter date.

Walking into the museum, we met with the enthusiastic volunteers who provided a warm welcome, shared information about the exhibit, and spoke about upcoming events to mark on our calendars. Moving inside, we found the house adorned with bunting, tea memorabilia, and cute posters posted all over featuring fun tea-related facts.

Moving upstairs, we found an immaculate dining room with a blue and white tea set that my daughters enjoyed playing posh ladies with. We then moved into the bedroom and were given a shock as we met a sweet older lady in bed, propped up next to a tray featuring tea remedies for ill health. Also upstairs, we stumbled upon a room dedicated to Japanese tea with lovely little tea sets on display and the most gorgeous kimonos. We also found a child’s room that had a doll’s house and a stuffed toy set up where the kids could play tea parties.

After discovering all that there was to be found throughout the house, we made our way outside to the lawn. Outside, there was billy tea on offer, the opportunity to sit and indulge in Devonshire tea on flower-adorned tables or to enjoy their sausage sizzle. Whilst waiting for food, we got lost in the gardens and found signs displaying various herbs, a blacksmith and even an old-style pioneer town with a police cell.

On our way, we stopped by a little stall that was selling packets of biscuits and cute little hampers with tea and Anzac cookies. We picked up a packet for us and one for our kind neighbour, and headed home after a lovely morning spent quality time together as a family.

I have said it before, but I will say it again, the Tea Tree Gully Museum is an absolute hidden gem in the North East of Adelaide! Not only is it well priced, but the exhibits are also always fascinating, creative and provide an interactive way for kids to learn in a fun environment.

What we like about

  • the fact that they go next level with their themes, their attention to detail and family-friendly focus also the low cost point is a big plus

Things to consider

  • The house is old and creaky and is two storeys so if you have mobility issues or a stroller, this is something to consider

Coffee and food options nearby

  • Topiary is our go to in the area for fancy food and good coffee and tea
