The Farm

Situated 5 minutes outside of the main town, The Farm – Clarendon is the picturesque spot where these gorgeous creatures reside. Owned by couple Emma and Ryan who established the business in 2020, The Farm is 100% organic and offers a range of different experiences and services. These include selling and breeding top quality heritage breeds of poultry, flower farming and workshops, and of course the highland cow experience. Watch this space for exciting news involving picnic packages soon to be offered at The Farm.

We were lucky enough to pay a visit to meet the cows during the April school holidays and loved every minute of it!

Cuddle a Cow – Highland Cow Experience

The Cuddle a Cow experience is a 40–60 minute session, giving visitors the chance to pat, brush and feed highland cattle. Most people would recognise this super cute breed from their long fringe covering their face and smaller stature. This experience is suitable for people of all ages, and groups are limited to six people to keep the sessions more intimate. Bookings must be made ahead of your visit.

After arriving at The Farm, we received a friendly greeting and filled in a bit of paperwork. We then took a short walk out to the paddocks where the cows were busily munching on their lunch, ready to meet us. Emma gave us a quick safety run down about how we should behave near the cows, to make the experience safe and happy for both ourselves and the animals.

We were introduced to several of the girls, Cassie, Maggie, Lily and Katy Perry. Yep, that is really her name! From there, you can brush, feed and talk to these cuties as much as you like. We loved how gentle these cows were, and they weren’t too big that the kids felt intimidated. Their long hair is perfect for brushing and there is plenty of lucerne hay to keep them still and steady.

Of course, all animals can be unpredictable so every session will differ depending on the mood of the cows on the day, how hungry they are and the weather. We loved how Emma and Ryan respected each animal and didn’t force any unwanted interaction.

After we spent about half an hour brushing, feeding and getting to know these beauties, it was time to meet one of the calves. We walked up to the pen where Daisy was kept and enjoyed feeding and brushing her. Emma told us how Daisy came to them at two days old with health problems and needed special care. Thanks to such dedicated owners, Daisy is thriving and was happy, active and had a nice feed while we were with her.

Photoshoot – Highland Cow Experience

The scenery at The Farm – Clarendon is stunning, with views to the hills and beyond. This provides lots of opportunity to take beautiful photos of your experience. Better yet why not book a session with professional photographer and collaborative partner ‘Wild Fields – by Ash Carey’ to capture the memories so that you will have special photos to treasure forever. This is at an additional cost but would make the perfect gift for a special occasion or a great opportunity to update the family photos.

We absolutely loved our visit to The Farm – Clarendon, we had lots of fun and its sure to be an experience we will remember forever!
