Adelaide’s Giant Christmas Tree | Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga

Giant Christmas Tree

Visit the Giant Christmas Tree in Adelaide’s Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga.

Soaring 25 metres into the sky, this beautiful Christmas tree towers over Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga each year and lights up nightly until the end of the festive season as part of the City of Adelaide’s Christmas Festival.

Going to see the giant Christmas tree is the city is a fabulous outing with the kids and it’s also completely FREE to visit. You can take a picnic or grab some food from the Adelaide Central Market or Gouger Street and admire the lights while sitting in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga. If it’s a warm night, the kids will love having a splash in the Victoria Square fountains too!

On evenings without a Festive Weekends event a festive soundtrack from Gospo Music Collective will play from lighting time for around 40 minutes.

This magnificent Christmas tree is covered in more than 13,616 individually programmed twinkling LED lights and features a light display which runs for approximately 10 minutes.

The Giant Christmas Tree lights up nightly switching on at 8.30pm and running until 2.30am.

You’ll be able to see it from Saturday 18 November 2023 to Tuesday 2 January 2024.

Lighting of the Giant Christmas Tree

Be part of the festive magic at Adelaide’s Christmas Tree Lighting event on Saturday 18 November 2023 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Victoria Square/ Tarntanyangga.

This free community celebration features lively performers followed by the illumination of the giant Christmas Tree at approximately 8:45 pm by the Lord Mayor and special guest! Indulge in delectable treats from food trucks while basking in the live entertainment.

There are also some pop-up water fountains in front of the Christmas Tree, so it’s a good idea to wear bathers or take a change of clothes and towel if your kids can’t resist running through the water (which is most kids!).

The tree is also worth visiting during the day if you have little ones who are usually asleep by 8.00pm.
