The Railway Children Return – Movie Review

If you’re looking for an Enid Blyton-type tale, with gorgeous country scenery and perfect period outfits, then you’ll love this film.

by Carla Caruso

The Railway Children Return – out in cinemas 15 September 2022 – is a sequel to the 1970 film, The Railway Children, itself based on the E. Nesbit novel of the same name. The sequel is set in 1944. As the story goes…as life in Britain’s cities becomes increasingly perilous, three evacuee children are sent by their mother from Salford, England, to the Yorkshire village of Oakworth.

There to meet them on the train station platform is Bobbie (Jenny Agutter, reprising her role from the original film), plus her daughter and grandson. With the trio’s help, the evacuees are soon settling into their new life in the countryside.

However, when the kids discover an injured American soldier hiding out at the local rail yard, they are thrust into a dangerous quest to assist their new pal who, like them, is a long way from home.

We loved how, like The Famous Five, there are four children playing the starring roles. Get the popcorn ready!
