Presented by the Australian Refugee Association, The Souk is a vibrant multicultural market and a lovely family friendly event bursting with flavour, culture and warm, welcoming community vibes.

The Souk provided the perfect opportunity to explore Tonsley Innovation District and to eat, play, shop and be immersed in a multicultural market atmosphere. Hosted by the Australian Refugee Association and organised for South Australian Refugee week, The Souk was a well planned, well delivered event that catered to young and old.

Entering the Souk, you couldn’t help but notice the vibrant atmosphere all around you. There were delicious smells thanks to the wide range of cuisines on offer from various food trucks. Some of the notable food vendors were Ishtar Middle Eastern food, Mi Casa Cocina Latina, Yasmina Al Sham serving delicious Syrian food, Miss Sippy coffee van and viral desserts from The Likuid Crew, just to name a few!

Food choices aside, there were so many fun and enticing market stalls selling cultural clothing items, 3D printed toys, Ayurvedic skincare, stickers, jewellery, fresh produce and even Turkish Mosaic lamps. Not only could you buy interesting and handmade items you could also have a caricature drawn of yourself or be adorned with a beautiful henna design.

Apart from food and shopping, there were multiple performances filtered through out the day including Lebanese drumming, dancing, a Welcome to Country and a Smoking Ceremony. It was a pleasure seeing so many unique performances and being amongst the festivities. Alongside performances there was a small soft play area for kids and The Souk Cultural Trail that encouraged children to explore and make the most of the event with items including origami art, puzzles and storytelling.

The multicultural marketplace had a lively feel and Tonsley is a great spot with ample space, easy parking and convenient cover from the elements. We had a great time visiting The Souk and would rush to return if they hold the event again!

What we like about it:
- The fun atmosphere, the shopping and great food options
- I also loved the kids activities and opportunities to interact for young and old
Things to Consider:
- This event was held at Tonsley Innovation District which is great as it was undercover but it was quite cold in Winter so definitely important to rug up!
