Thin Ice VR

From the only person to authentically recreate Shackleton’s journey of survival, Tim Jarvis AM brings you closer to the epic experience than ever before in a 20-minute historical re-creation documentary VR experience.

In 1914, in one of the last great expeditions of the heroic age of Antarctic exploration, Sir Ernest Shackleton set out on one of the era’s most ambitious and harrowing journeys: to cross Antarctica coast-to-coast. Over a century on, environmental scientist Tim Jarvis AM, and award winning studio, Monkeystack, have recreated Shackleton’s epic, tragic feat of endurance in an immersive virtual reality experience.

Join Jarvis in following Shackleton’s footsteps, and bear witness to another new and heartbreaking narrative: the icy environment that Shackleton and his peers once explored has now been transformed by the effects of anthropogenic climate change.

Equal parts catastrophic and transcendent, Thin Ice VR presents a uniquely affecting account of how humanity asserts its will over the extremes of nature — often in unforeseen ways.

The worldwide premiere of Thin Ice VR is presented by the Adelaide Film Festival and the South Australian Museum.
