Adelaide Carols by Candlelight

Adelaide’s Sealink Carols by Candlelight returns to Elder Park/Tarntanya Wama in 2023.

The much loved SeaLink Carols by Candlelight event will once again return to Adelaide’s Elder Park/Tarntanya Wama on Saturday 9 December 2023 with a star-studded evening concert by the River Torrens.

7NEWS Adelaide personalities Rosanna Mangiarelli, Will Goodings and Amelia Mulcahy return as hosts with a stellar line up of performers including the ultra-talented fan favourite Hugh Sheridan and Australian music legend Paul Kelly.  For the first time Casey Donovan will perform, alongside a host of local and national talent including Beccy Cole, Amber Lawrence, Gospo Collective, Matt Evans from Home and Away, Paulini, Rachael Beck, and stars from State Opera of South Australia

Sealink Carols by Candlelight provides a wonderful opportunity to get together with your nearest and dearest, light your candles and sing along to some of your favourite Christmas songs.  It’s one of the most exciting times of the year, as families get out their rugs and picnic baskets to be part of one of our city’s great traditions.

Families can soak up the festival like atmosphere, bring a picnic rug and enjoy a FREE day out with plenty of interactive games, activities, and food stalls on offer at Elder Park/Tarntanya Wama from 2pm and right up until the SeaLink Carols by Candlelight concert begins in the evening at 8.15pm.

Entertainment also includes the City of Adelaide pre-show concert from 5pm featuring an array of local artists.

Carols by Candlelight is Australia’s second-oldest Christmas concert, presented to Adelaide residents and television audiences since 1944 when an estimated one in 10 citizens attended the first event. The traditional Elder Park concert now attracts more than 25,000 people annually and raises much-needed funds for South Australian charitable causes.

MAIN CONCERT

Now in its 79th year, the main concert will commence at 8pm.

It wouldn’t be SeaLink Kangaroo Island Carols by Candlelight without the one and only Hugh Sheridan who will be back at Elder Park again this year.  Australian music legend Paul Kelly is set to perform at his very first Carols by Candlelight.  Adelaide born and raised, Paul’s highly decorated music career includes seventeen ARIA awards, five APRA Awards, and an ARIA Hall of Fame Induction.

Casey Donavon will perform on stage for the very first time in 2023.  Casey is one of Australia’s most versatile performers having not only made her mark as a multi-Award winning musician, but also through her career on stage, screen, and as a writer.

Six times Golden Guitar winner, Australian singer-songwriter Amber Lawrence will also perform.  Amber is one of Australia’s most celebrated and hardest working country artists and has just been announced the 2023 Female Artist of the Year at the CMAA Golden Guitar Awards.

South Australian country music star Beccy Cole is one of the nation’s best-loved and most celebrated artists.  Beccy will take to the stage and take the audience through a journey of new songs and of course, old favourites.

Lead by Charmaine Jones, Adelaide’s GOSPO Collective is, without a doubt, one of the best vocal groups in Australia. Displaying the intricacies of the human voice like no other, it’s where African rhythm meets Western harmony and the worlds of hymns and hip hop collide.  This will be Charmaine’s and GOSPO Collective’s first appearance on Adelaide’s Carols by Candlelight and we know you’ll just love them.

Matt Evans is a 26 year-old actor and musician born and raised in Western Australia.  Matt played in the band ‘Atlas Chasers’ while he was working as a forklift driver then at 23, Matt auditioned for the hit reality TV series The Voice, where he made it to the top 20 in the 2019 singing competition and was mentored by music legend Delta Goodrem.  In 2021 Matt landed the role of Theo Poulos on Home and Away, which also served as his first acting gig.

Paulini has been heralded as one of the finest vocalists and performers to come out of Australia. The Fijian-born songstress rose to fame through television screens on the very first season of Australian Idol, which thrust her into the spotlight. Making it through to the final four, she won the hearts of a nation with her angelic, five-octave range and engaging personality.

A proud Ambassador of the Australian Children’s Music Foundation, Rachael Beck is a multi-faceted, award-winning powerhouse whose talents span stage and screen as an acclaimed vocal artist and actress. A highly skilled concert performer, Rachael appeared with Todd McKenney and Tommy Tycho in Broadway to Hollywood with the National Symphony Orchestras in Australia. Her other concert credits include numerous Carols in the Domain, the Na.onal tour of Disney Princess’s 2023, War Of The Worlds, Broadway Hits for QLD Pops Orchestra, Goodnight Hamer Hall for The Arts Centre, More Than Words at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and QPAC’s Christmas in Concert and Spirit of Christmas.

For over forty years, State Opera South Australia has brought extraordinary operatic “firsts” to South Australian audiences. Continuing this tradition, for the first time ever, four of State Opera SA’s biggest talents will perform at Carols. Together, opera stars Desiree Frahn, Nicholas Cannon, Cherie Boogaart and Jiacheng Ding bring years of experience, remarkable bodies of work, and passion to the stage.

The Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus came into being in 1997, following a name change from The Adelaide Chorus, which was formed in 1980.  With over 60 members, the choir performs three or four music events of its own each year and performs with other performing organisations and festivals.  The choir has been the major choir at SeaLink Carols by Candlelight since 2016.

Young Adelaide Voices has been inspiring and educating young choristers for 30 years. Established in 1988 as the Adelaide Gilrs’ Choir, before the name change in 2004, recognising that the Young Adelaide Voices catered to the musical development of girls and boys between the ages of five and 35.  Young Adelaide Voices continues to shine in the national and international choral world. They have been part of SeaLink Carols by Candlelight since 2016.
