Victor Harbor WhaleFest 2022
Victor Harbor WhaleFest is a program of events celebrating the start of the whale season on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Whale Season has official begun in Victor Harbor with the first Southern Right Whale spotted out from the stunning Waitpinga cliffs in late May. Join the month and a half long celebration of our beautiful whales by immersing yourself in fun and thought-provoking activities during WhaleFest 2022.
Opening Event – Saturday 11 June 2022
RAMINDJERI WELCOMING OF THE WHALES (AMPHITHEATRE)
Join in from 9am for a beautiful Ramindjeri Welcoming of the Whales and smoking ceremony at the Amphitheatre next to Soldiers Memorial Gardens. Cedric Varcoe and Mark Koolmatrie will present the ceremony, with other guest speakers including local MP, the Honourable David Basham, and City of Victor Harbor Mayor, Dr Moira Jenkins.
WHALEFEST ACTIVITIES (WARLAND RESERVE)
Drop by Warland Reserve between 10am – 4pm for the main event, with rolling family-friendly activities, maritime guest speakers, whale workshops and live music. All festivities are free and everyone is welcome to join. It’s the perfect place to get inspired and excited about the whale season – and even get some whale watching tips!
VICTOR HARBOR ARTISAN MARKETS (RAILWAY PLAZA)
Waddle over to Railway Plaza on Railway Terrace from 10am – 4pm to enjoy 50+ artisan stalls, local food and beverage and live entertainment. From sports massages and woodwork demonstrations, to basket weaving and tarot card reading, there’s something for everyone! Visitors can also browse health foods, ceramics, handmade art, homewares, market flowers and more.
NAIDOC MARCH & CELEBRATIONS

Miwi-inyeri Pelepi-ambi Aboriginal Corporation are proud to present this years NAIDOC week celebrations. Gathering at Grosvenor Gardens at 10:15am to begin the march. Meet at Soldiers Memorial Gardens from 11am for further celebrations including smoking ceremony, welcome to country, BBQ, Flag raising, face painting and children’s activities.

THE CEDRIC VARCOE SESSIONS @ Coral Street Art Space
Join in for a day of learning to weave the Ngarrindjeri traditional way with Ngarrindjeri man and contemporary artist Cedric Varcoe. During the class they’ll be talking about Culture, the plants they’ll be weaving with and their traditional uses. All ages.
