Walkerville Oval Playground is fully fenced, nicely shaded and features the cutest toddler equipment.

Walkerville Oval Playground is a small, fully fenced playground, but there’s plenty of equipment in here and it’s particularly suited for toddlers. The toddler equipment is ridiculously cute, but bigger kids are not forgotten with a climbing tower and large tube slide.

The toddler equipment includes plenty of small slides, platforms and mini climbing walls. There are climbing tunnels, a low plank bridge and cottage windows.

Nearby is a springy car with room for multiple kids, and a larger slide on a soft fall slope.

For the bigger kids, there’s a climbing frame with a long, speedy tube slide. The nearby merry-go-round is also suited for bigger kids as it’s above the ground, and capable of spinning very fast with some effort.

There are several swings in the playground including a basket swing and toddler swing.

The playground borders the oval, and just outside the fenced area is a picnic shelter with barbeques and there’s a toilet block nearby.

There’s off-street parking available in the oval carpark, accessible from Smith Street. There’s also parking along Alfred Street. Note this is a narrow, one-way street (but very quiet). You can only enter Alfred Street from Walkerville Terrace and exit onto Warwick Street.

What we like about it:

• It’s a fully-fenced and well shaded playground.
• There’s toilet and picnic facilities just outside the fence.
• There’s plenty of equipment suited for toddlers here.

Things to consider:

• This playground no longer has a shaded sandpit, this was removed and replaced with full length cricket nets as part of the Walkerville Open Space project in late 2025.
• While there are several shade sails, some areas of the playground are in full sun at certain times of the day. You will still need sunscreen and hats.
• Most of the playground soft fall consists of bark chips, making it a bit tricky to manoeuvre strollers in the playground area.

Coffee and food options nearby:

Walkerville Terrace is nearby, with multiple cafes. Our favourite is Faar Farr Away, one street over on Victoria Terrace.
