Welcome home celebration for South Australia’s 2016 Rio Paralympic Athletes

A community celebration will be held in Rundle Mall on Friday 7 October 2016, to welcome home and congratulate our Paralympic heroes.

Among the team of Australian athletes to head to Rio were nine South Australians who brought home four medals.

Brayden Davidson who won gold in the long jump, and Sam Von Einem who won silver in the table tennis will be among the athletes who will be at the Gawler Place canopy from noon.

Members of the public will have a chance to welcome the athletes home and congratulate them on their success. There will also be an opportunity to meet the athletes and grab a photo and an autograph.

There will be free face painting with a green and gold theme from 10am, plus a screen showing highlights of the Games.

The event will be hosted by Channel 7 Sport Reporter Theo Doropoulos.

Our paralympians have done us proud in Rio and this event is a great opportunity to thank them for representing our state, and our country, on the world stage.  I encourage everyone to come along and celebrate their success and welcome them home. {Premier Jay Weatherill}

Accessibility

A small reserved accessible and inclusive viewing area for people with disability and mobility support requirements will be provided for this celebration in the Gawler Place Canopy in Rundle Mall. Additionally an Auslan interpreter will be provided to interpret official proceedings from 12 noon to 1.00 pm.

Any guests requiring any accessibility considerations are encouraged to register by close of business Wednesday 5 October 2016.
