What the Croque! Cafe with Playground | Daw Park | Review

What the Croque! Cafe

As part of the Daw Park Repat Health Precintc which has recently undergone a redevelopment, a cafe and playground has been established for patients, families and the general community to use. This is where What the Croque have made their home after running their business as a coffee and catering van since 2022. Did we mention that there’s a FULLY FENCED outdoor playground next to the cafe? Yes, that’s right, drink your coffee in peace while the kids play safely inside the fenced area.

They have a varied menu on offer, with everything from snacks, breakfast, pasta, a kids’ menu and their signature Croques (French toasties), plus of course coffee, as well as smoothies and milkshakes.

The kids’ menu currently includes ham & cheese toastie, pasta, egg on toast or French toast with blueberry compote, maple syrup and ice cream.

What is a Croque? It’s basically a toastie sandwich but done in a French way. Below is the Shroom Croque with braised mushroom, caramelised onion and cheese, served with chips (crisps), which was delicious. They have signature Croque Monsieur which is an extravagant toastie with ham, Swiss cheese, Parmesan cheese and homemade béchamel (mornay sauce) in sourdough. The Croque Madame traditionally features an egg as well, and you’ll find this on the menu too.

Our Berry Smoothie was yummy too.

They had smaller bites as well with croissants, tarts, muffins as well as sweet treats like brownies, smiley face biscuits and Kingston biscuits.

There are outdoor tables under cover and they all look over the fenced playground area. A large tree adjacent to the play area gives plenty of shade during certain times of the day. We visited in the afternoon and as you can see it was fully shaded. There’s plenty of space for prams.

The playground features a large climbing tower with interesting pieces of climbing equipment attached, some of which is more suited to advanced climbers and not little toddlers.  A cute little cubby sits next to this for little ones.

The rubber soft fall surface is safe and at least you don’t need to worry about your toddler eating bark.

There’s enough space to bring along a little trike to ride around on, ball or other toys to play within the fenced area.

Indoors, the cafe is spacious with room for prams or wheelchairs. They have a little corner with some colouring-in.
