World Environment Day | 5 Jun 2024

World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment.

World Environment Day is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and held annually since 1973, it has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach. It is celebrated by millions of people across the world.

For this year’s World Environment Day, lend Earth a helping hand by becoming #GenerationRestoration.

Everybody alive now is part of a generation that is the first to witness the devastating effects of environmental degradation.

The 2024 theme is Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.  Drought, land degradation and desertification have the potential to destroy life on planet earth. As the campaign for World Environment Day starts, it is a good opportunity to get involved.

The message is clear. Ecosystems restoration at mass scale is needed to tackle climate change, save species from extinction and secure our future.

You can check out “We Are #GenerationRestoration: A Practical Guide” to find out how you and your family can help to make a difference.

The Host

Every World Environment Day has a different host country, where the official celebrations take place. The focus on the host country helps highlight the environmental challenges it faces and supports worldwide efforts to address them.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host World Environment Day 2024 with a focus on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.
