Enjoy creative, hands-on fun during the July school holidays at Yasi’s sewing Workshops. 

Fashion lecturer and designer Yasi Kudage Dona is hosting small-group sewing workshops, designed especially for kids aged 8 and up. Whether they’re threading a needle for the first time or ready to take their skills to the next level, there’s a class to suit every level.

With only three students per session, each child receives personalised support in a relaxed, inspiring environment.

Sewing Workshops:

Beginner Class 1: Make a Drawstring Backpack

The perfect intro to sewing! Kids will learn the basics of using a sewing machine and complete their very own backpack by the end of the session.

They’ll learn:

• Parts of a sewing machine
• Threading and winding a bobbin
• Sewing straight lines and curves
• Finishing and pressing seams
• Assembling a drawstring backpack

Duration: 3 hours | Age: 8+ | Cost: $100 | Includes snack (juice & biscuits) + all fabric and equipment

Beginner Class 2: Scrunchie Time!

A quick, fun workshop where kids can make their own bunny ears scrunchie and take home the pattern to make more.

They’ll learn:

• How to sew and shape a bunny ears scrunchie
• Basic hand-held machine techniques
• Simple fabric handling

Duration: 1 hour | Age: 8+ | Cost: $50 | All materials and tools provided.

Intermediate Class 01: Sew Your Own Skirt

Perfect for kids who already know their way around a sewing machine or have completed one of Yasi’s beginner classes.

They’ll learn:

• Measuring for personal fit
• Cutting fabric to size
• Inserting elastic
• Sewing and pressing seams
• Finishing a gathered skirt

Duration: 2 hours | Age: 8+ | $90 | All materials and machines provided

Intermediate Class 02: Cosmetic Pouch or Pencil Case

Take it up a notch with a zip-up pouch—ideal as a pencil case, makeup bag or small keepsake.

They’ll learn:

• Using patterns to cut fabric
• Fusing and lining
• Attaching a zipper with a zipper foot
• Pressing and assembling the pouch

Duration: 2 hours | Age: 8+ | $90 | All materials and machines provided

About Yasi

Yasi Kudage Dona is a qualified fashion lecturer at TAFE SA with a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design, and holds a valid Working with Children Check. Her school holiday workshops are a fantastic way for kids to get creative, build confidence and learn a lifelong skill—with lots of laughs along the way.
