Yitpi Yartapuultiku Aboriginal Cultural Centre – a new place to gather, share stories and celebrate Kaurna culture.
Yitpi Yartapuultiku, meaning ‘Soul of Port Adelaide’ in Kaurna, is a living cultural centre grounded in Kaurna country. It’s a place for truth-telling, connection, creativity and community. Built with the guidance of local Elders, Yitpi honours Kaurna stories and provides a space where all people – Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal – can come together to learn, share, reflect and grow. From immersive exhibitions and artistic expression to cultural programs and education, Yitpi is a welcoming gateway to understanding Country, culture and community. It’s not just a building – it’s a place of belonging.
Official Opening Event:
Join the City of Port Adelaide Enfield for this free community event marking Parnatti (Autumn to Winter) and Waitpi (windy season) as they open Yitpi Yartapuultiku with a cultural ceremony and performance, exhibitions, self-guided trail, Aboriginal maker stalls and family-friendly activities. Explore the riverside grounds, nature playspace and trace ancient stories etched in sculpture and art curated by Aboriginal custodians.
During the community event there are no parking spots available on site, so they encourage you to park in surrounding streets and observe sign posted parking restrictions.
Port Plaza is making car parks available for the event in the section on the corner of Old Port Road and Hack Street opposite Joyce Snadden Reserve. There are also a large number of parking spaces available on Baynes Place.
Public transport options are available nearby with the Port Adelaide and Ethelton train stations both a 750m (10 min) walk away, and buses operating along Bower Road.
