Tube Sliding Fun for Families

Adelaide’s only tube slides opened on 2 February 2019 at Woodhouse Activity Centre

What exactly is a tube slide you may be wondering? Well, think of a waterslide, but without the water. It’s set up on a hill slope in the beautiful 54 hectare grounds of the Woodhouse Activity Centre, home of Scouts SA. This is located only 20 minutes from the CBD, up the Freeway in the hills at Piccadilly (next to Crafers/Stirling).

There are two runs that are over 100 metres long. One has added walled curves, while the other is straight (for added speed).

How it works is that you start at the bottom of the run and get your tube. You then need to drag your tube up the hill to the top of the runs.

2 Options – Straight Slide or Curved Slide

Once you’re up there you have 2 decisions to make. Firstly, which slide will you go down, the straight one or the curved one. Many choose to do the curved one first as it’s not quite as fast. Secondly do you want to slide down straight or do you want to spin around as you are sliding. There is someone at the top who will give you a push to start you off and they will either push you straight or give you a spin.

It’s best to make sure that everything is secured well and nothing can fly off you as you slide down – hats, jewellery, bags etc

The rides are suitable for ages 6 and up, though younger children may slide with an adult on a maxi-tube. Little ones will need help getting their tubes up the hill too. If you’ve been to a Water Park before you’ll know how much exercise you get from this.

TIPS ON WHAT TO BRING

  • Closed toe shoes are recommended.
  • Don’t wear anything you don’t want to get dirty
  • Hat, sunscreen, drink bottle, food
  • Towel and change of clothes, including shoes if you’re going to the Challenge Hill Obstacle Course – there’s a pretty good chance you will get wet in the creek.
