Gospo Collective’s Superstar: ‘The Carpenters Story’ – Celebrating 50 years of The Carpenters | Review
We recently had the pleasure of experiencing an Adelaide harmonious community choir at its finest.
Musical dynamos Charmaine Jones and the famously talented Chong Lim, on the grand piano (best known for his work as Musical Director and Producer for John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John and Kylie Minogue) co-directed and re-created the captivating tribute of brother and sister duo, The Carpenters, in celebration of the sibling’s anniversary of their global debut 50 years ago.
Charmaine and Chong were joined by the Gospo Collective, Jones Commentary, Jones Chorus, and the gorgeous Jones Juniors (with ages ranging from 5 to 75), and transported us on a two-hour musical journey at Plant 4 Bowden. Every song, hymn, solo, and note was delivered with passion and dedication.
It was truly a magnificent performance that had the audience engaged and singing along to the old-time favourites.
When Charmaine and the Gospo groups put on another show, we urge you to go along and experience their magic for yourself.
Their performances are usually suitable for all ages and are fabulously entertaining.
If you love to sing have you thought about joining this Adelaide choir?
The Gospo Collective is well known for their performance of Jackson Vs Jackson at the Adelaide Fringe and Charmaine is recognised as one of Australia’s most prominent vocal and choral music educators.
She also runs a singing school right here in Adelaide along with her business partner, Ben Gillard. With weekly sessions with the Jones Commentary (adults 17+), Jones Chorus (teens 12-16 years) and Jones Juniors (kids 5-11 years) as well as the professional arm, the Gospo Collective. She also trains The Big Black Caftans, situated in the Barossa Valley, which includes the talented and well-known Maggie Beer.
If you think you’d enjoy singing and vocalising with the community then take a look at the right option for your age group and join in. The choral experience is for anyone that either likes to sing in the shower or to the masses. It’s a fun opportunity to learn, grow and experience vocal music in a community setting.
