Jackson vs Jackson by Gospo Collective | Adelaide Fringe Review

Peacock Tent | Gluttony – Corner Rundle Street & East Terrace, Adelaide

You don’t have to be a huge Michael Jackson or Janet Jackson fan to enjoy the Gospo Collective’s performance in Jackson vs Jackson, but if you are then you’re in for a massive treat!  What you do need to love, if going to this show, is music; and the incredible talents of those on stage will have you applauding time and time again for the full hour of entertainment.

This family friendly show has something for everyone.  Jackson vs Jackson isn’t actually a competition between the two artists, but a tribute to their incredible music and just how much the songs meant to their millions of fans around the world.  You will be familiar with many of their famous hits, such as Billie Jean, Thriller, The Way You Make Me Feel, Miss You Much, and of course Black or White.  You will also hear a few songs you may or may not recognise too.

The Gospo Collective’s originality is refreshing, with the group’s own interpretation and mashup of each song a real highlight.  This production is well rehearsed and features synchronised choreography from every member on stage.  Their costumes pop against the dark backdrop and their idols’ name up in lights completes the set.

The director of Gospo Collective, Charmaine Jones-Devasgayam, is an engaging, brilliantly talented host who performs her role beautifully.   Her position as lead vocalist and conductor keeps the show running smoothly.  She steps aside when, in turn, the collective singers each perform small solo pieces.  She was also dressed impeccably in a Janet Jackson-inspired Couture+Love+Madness jacket and pants!

Along with the Gospo Collective the show features a professional choir, live band and backing choir. A gorgeous touch are the little ones – the Jones Juniors – who walk on stage for their moment in the spotlight, also dressed in Jackson inspired outfits.  The adorable kids range in age from five to 10 and will feature at every performance.

With soulful originality and uplifting energy, this vocal group had the audience either tapping their feet or grooving in their seats and by the end everyone was encouraged to get up and have a boogie!
