Family Friendly Accomodation at BIG4 West Beach Parks

BIG4 West Beach Parks is set on 1.2km of coastline and offers fun activities onsite and a huge range of accommodation for all budgets, plus direct access to the beach.

West Beach Parks is close to the city of Adelaide (just 20 minutes drive) and is perfect for a quick weekend getaway or a longer holiday.

We love that West Beach Parks is only a few minutes drive from the suburbs of Glenelg and Henley Beach which offer a great range of eateries. There is also a boardwalk stretching from Glenelg to Henley Beach for those wanting to stretch their legs. You can even hire a bike and go for a ride along the boardwalk.

Accommodation

This popular park offers powered sites for caravans and camping, and features a laundry and camp kitchen.

For those looking for accommodation, there is an option for all budgets: basic cabins, holiday units, villas, cabins, eco tents and even deluxe cabins.

The beautiful, newly built Beach Cabins are extremely comfortable, clean and feature quality appliances including a dishwasher, oven, full-sized fridge, Nespresso pod machine, and kitchen utensils. We stayed in a 2 bedroom Beach Cabin with 1 bathroom, plus a second toilet.

In the cabin there is a comfortable and generously sized couch, dining table, huge Sony TV, and a deck with outdoor seating and Weber BBQ.

Facilities

We visited in June 2020 and although the weather was forecast to be cold and rainy, we rugged up in warm clothes and were still able to enjoy all the facilities on offer including the pool, water park, jumping pillows and go-karts and a walk on the beach.

Outdoor Heated Pool

The large outdoor pool is beautifully warm and is consistently heated to 26 degrees for year-round use. There is seating available at the pool and plenty of room. Currently, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the pool is permitted 20 persons only at one time.

The pool has some water fountains which are perfect for kids of all ages to play in and there is a large wading area, perfect for small children to enjoy.

The pool depth slowly increases in depth to around 1m, then as it curves, it progresses to a total depth of 1.8m at the opposite end of the pool. There is good visibility around the whole pool and it is easy to determine where the water becomes deep, which is great for younger swimmers who can stay at the shallow end of the pool while adults (who are not needing to stay within arms reach of children) can make use of the deeper end of the pool.

There is also a BBQ area outside the pool with a generous amount of tables and chairs and a leisure centre nearby.

Leisure Centre

The leisure centre has a TV room with 1 television and 2 couches.

The Leisure Centre also houses a small gym which is locked and can be accessed by contacting reception.

The indoor playgym is perfect for small children who love to climb.

For older children, there is a games room with couches and PS4 consoles and games. There is also comfortable seating for available for adults to stay and supervise their children.

Jumping Pillows & Playgrounds

There are 2 jumping pillows on either end of the park and 2 small playgrounds which would suit toddler and primary school-age children.

The main playground features slides, climbing chains, swings and more so there’s plenty to keep the kids busy.

Outdoor Eating Area and Firepit

Personally, I think the beach is beautiful all year round and this park has provided fun activities for all weather types including an outdoor seating area and charcoal fire pit for toasting marshmallows.

Go-Karts

One of the highlights for my kids was riding in the park’s go-karts. The go-karts come in a range of types and sizes to accommodate all ages. There are single go-karts for older children with adjustable seats with either handlebars or a steering wheel.  The go-karts rely on pedal power and have a lever brake. Kids seem adept at riding them easily within minutes and Mr 10 was attempting “doughnuts” very soon after getting on!

The go-karts can be accessed via a small shed. However, a form needs to be signed at reception and the experience is time-limited to 50 minutes to ensure that everyone in the park can have a turn.

Water Park

Closer to the southern end of the park is a zero-depth water park which can be operated manually by pressing a button nearby. Timed sprayers run throughout the water park for approximately 10 minutes and the highlight is a giant bucket which fills with water then tips onto children below.

Even though it was a wintry day, my two kids were keen to try it out and they had a ball. They warmed up in the pool afterwards and then it was a quick walk across the park and straight into a hot shower.

Beach

There are several access points to the boardwalk along the beachfront, however, several of these were closed at the time of our visit. It was then a short stroll through the park to reach the boardwalk and stairs onto the beach.

The seaside is still relaxing no matter what time of year it is and we wandered along the beach skimming stones and enjoying the sea air. West Beach is a beautiful, sandy beach and lovely for a walk and some exploration during the cooler months and perfect during the warmer months.

Part of the beauty of West Beach Park is its proximity to the beach – no need to drag snacks, picnic baskets, blankets and everything else down to the beach when you can come and go at ease. I particularly love the concept of being able to head straight back to the accommodation and jump in the shower straight away. No sand in the car.

Adelaide’s beautiful sky and sunsets never disappoint!

Dining Out

There is a cafe onsite, however, it is closed on Sundays and opening hours may change with easing COVID-19 restrictions.

There are a few takeaway shops in West Beach including a bakery and fish and chip shop. However, if you are looking for something different, there are plenty of eateries at Henley Beach (pictured above) and Glenelg, both within a few minutes drive of West Beach Parks. Alternatively, you could hire a bike or walk along the boardwalk to either Henley Beach to Glenelg. If you are after amazing gelato, Bottega Gelateria (Henley Beach) is definitely worth a visit!

Activities Nearby

There are several sports and adventure activities located with walking distance of West Beach Parks, which means you could never be bored staying here.
