Sunny’s Shop and Mr Chan at Rosemont Hall – Review April 2021

EDITOR’S NOTE:  Sadly Rosemont Hall suffered a terrible fire on 16 September 2021 which destroyed the beautiful building. The restaurant has since been rebuilt and is now once again open for business with bookings available from 22 January 2024.  Our review below is from April 2021 – we look forward to visiting again soon.

Prospect Road has become such a food hub and one of the most vibrant would have to be Rosemont Hall.

It is home to both Sunny’s Shop and Mr Chan. You’ll be transported to South East Asia with both the aesthetics and food. The cute ‘alleyway’ and Sunny’s will have you feeling like you’re in Penang, Thailand or Bali. The beautiful space inside Mr Chan would match any of the Hong Kong restaurants. Their menu has something for everyone with vegetarian and gluten free options as well.

The Sunny’s side is the more casual outdoor seating along the ‘alley’ and out front. The space in the alley is one the kids love. We have to walk through there every time we visit Prospect Road.

Mr Chan is the first space when entering the beautiful Rosemont Hall. It is themed as a traditional Chinese restaurant dining room with the lanterns and beautiful candles at night.

Both menus can be ordered in both areas. The kids loved the Crispy Chicken Wings and Char Kway Teow (a wok fried flat rice noodles with chicken or prawns). We thoroughly enjoyed the Laksa, Duck and Lychee Salad and the Thai Green Curry Chicken. Such innovative and fresh food!

Their signature Cheeseburger Spring Rolls are literally as the name suggests. It’s a spring roll but with a filling that tastes exactly like a cheesy burger.

This wall art below takes us straight to the streets of Penang where this style of artwork graces several of the city streets in George Town. So while we can’t travel overseas right now, this is the next best thing – you can take the kids on an adventure to experience a slice of South East Asia right here in Prospect.
