Lobethal Bushland Park Nature Playground – Play Space Review

The playspaces at Lobethal Bushland Park have been upgraded, with two scenic playgrounds to explore – one for younger kids and one for older kids.

The upgrade introduced gentle equipment and sensory play for smaller children of all abilities, a new family BBQ area (with a gorgeous view), and an exciting tower and equipment for bigger kids. In fact, my kids think it’s the best playground in our area of the Hills (which it definitely is!). 

It is spaced out into two sections: a baby/toddler play space near the entrance, and further around the lake is the big kids section. In between are the undercover BBQs, a few picnic tables and rubbish bins. Walk past the BBQ area and follow the lake to get to the older kids playground.

The playground boasts quite a large slide which is only accessible by climbing up nets within the tower.

This seesaw was a big hit with our 3 and 7 year old girls, but please note it can get quite high on one side.

Note that there is no shade for the playground so the equipment may get quite hot in summer. Nor are there any covered picnic tables – only the barbecues are under cover. The play space is also not fenced so make sure to watch the kids near the water. 

Toilets are located in the brick building at the entrance to the playground and there is also a SA Water facility to refill drink bottles.

Things to consider

• The gates to the carpark are open from 8am to 5pm daily
• Bushland Park is closed on total fire ban days
• There are two playgrounds here; the one for smaller kids is near the carpark entrance, and the one for older kids is a short walk from the BBQ area through the trees.
• No pets are allowed in the bushland section of the park
• Consider combining your play with a family bushwalk, with several trails to choose from
• The playground is not fenced
• There isn’t a lot of shade, so be sure to bring hats, water bottles and sunscreen
