Christopher Grove Reserve Fairy Playspace

Can you keep a secret? We have found out where the fairies live!

Review by Jo Parkinson

If you have a little one who loves elves and fairies, then the City of Marion’s gorgeous Christopher Grove Reserve at O’Halloran Hill is the perfect place to visit.

Let their imaginations run wild as they explore the giant toadstool house, complete with door, windows and four little seats on the inside. Stepping stones and lavender bushes out the front are a lovely addition to make the area feel homely.

Fairy Tea Party

Take along a picnic and enjoy a tea party with all your fairy friends at the little table and chairs. Or you might like to sit and read some of your favourite fairy tales instead.

There is a cute little bridge that looks like something you might find in fairy land, that crosses over a creek bed. There was no water in the creek when we visited, making it a fun place to play and explore.

As well as the fairy themed play area, there is also a rock-climbing feature made from a large tree stump, and a web swing. Even though play equipment is limited at this reserve, it gives children the opportunity to invent their own ideas for play.

Fairy Themed Nature Play & Imaginiative Play

Under the shade of a tree, you will find a bench seat for adults to sit and relax while they keep an eye on the kids and there is a water fountain for all the thirsty fairy folk.

The reserve has a large, grassed area great for running around, kicking a ball, or setting down a picnic blanket. There is also a dirt path connecting all the areas of play, perfect for riding small bikes.

Christopher Grove Reserve is a magical place to visit, where children are free to use their imagination in role play and storytelling, as well as encouraging them to enjoy the natural elements in the surrounding area.

Things to consider:

  • No toilets
  • Not fenced, although the reserve is at the end of a cul-de-sac in a quiet street so there is not much traffic
  • For some extra fun, you could bring along some dress ups, picnic, fairy tale books and bikes
