DC League of Super-Pets

DC League of Super-Pets is the Superhero movie we didn’t realise we all needed!

If you’ve been waiting for a family movie that ticks all the boxes, then you’re going to love DC League of Super-Pets.

by Brooke Hendry

This movie has it all..a star-studded cast, laughs, action, a splash of adult humour, friendship, team work, playing to your strengths, and all the feels. Plus, who doesn’t love animals? Even the ones that may be incredibly evil little villains trying to destroy Metropolis!

This flick is perfect for the young, and the young at heart

My 8 and 11 year old girls, plus myself and husband, all thought this movie was hilarious and thoroughly enjoyable for all ages. We 100% recommend putting it on your must see list.

It’s great to see a new superhero movie that’s about the true superheros of this world – our loyal and loveable pets. The ones that are always there for us, through thick and thin, with unconditional love.

DC League of Super-Pets review

DC League of Super-Pets tells the tale of Superman’s (John Krasinski) dog, named Krypto (Dwayne Johnson) who’s been Superman’s inseparable BFF since ‘The Man of Steel’ was a baby. But, when Superman’s attention turns more and more towards Lois Lane (Olivia Wilde), Krypto’s jealousy soon sets in. Emotions are thrown out of balance as Superman has not only been Kyrpto’s BFF for life, but also his only friend in the world.

Throw in an incredibly evil telekinetic guinea pig (don’t ever dare calling her a hamster!) named Lulu (Kate McKinnon) and her army of mutant guinea pig henchmen, a fabulous mix of down-and-out shelter animals, plus the rest of the DC League superheros, and you’ve got the recipe for an exciting and entertaining movie that will keep your interest from beginning to end.

They’re the most unlikely group to save the world – but also the ones you want on your side!

It’s great to see that the ‘not-so-perfectly-cute’ shelter animals embrace their flaws and turn them into strengths. Rather than just seeing super cute and perfect pets. It’s always a feel-good moment when you witness the underdogs rise up and believe in themselves. There’s also a theme of inclusivity throughout, which is nice to see.

The dynamic duo – Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart (the voice for Ace the Bat-Hound) always have such a great chemistry together, and this still shines through with their cartoon counterparts. Really, everyone in this film fits their roles so well.

And Batman (Keanu Reeves), I think you’re my new favourite superhero – and not just because I love Keanu. I just never knew you were so… emotionally deep!

Merton McSnurtle the Turtle does throw out some funny adult innuendo… But, he’s also hilarious!

Merton McSnurtle the Turtle/Terrific Whatzit (Natasha Lyonne) was another favourite of ours – especially in the hilarious moments of watching him trying to flirt with inanimate objects. We should make note that Merton does dish out some adult-humour here and there, along with a couple of beeped-out cuss words.

It was great to hear some familiar Aussie voices

Oh, and of course we must mention the lovable Aussie’s of the film who provide a few chuckles along the way – Dr Chris Brown gives voice to ‘Mark’, the flying, flaming fire-breathing guinea pig and Julia Morris, the voice of ‘Keith’, the guinea pig who can transform into ice and water with the ability to freeze anything.

DC League of Super-Pets will be in Adelaide cinemas from 15 September 2022

It’s the perfect feel-good family movie to catch during the Spring school holidays. It seemed as though the rest of the audience watching with us also enjoyed the film, as it was the first movie we’d seen in a long time where the audience clapped at the end!

We think, if you love animals and superheros then you’re definitely going to love DC League of Super-Pets.
