Resonate 2023 Review – Illuminate Adelaide
Resonate is a whole new light experience in 2023 which covers much more of the expansive Botanic Garden. The 6 installations are spread out over a 1.7km trail so there’s plenty of space for everyone to really appreciate the captivating light and sound displays. It also means there’s a lot more walking this year, so be prepared with our tips below.
Moment Factory, the creative team behind the previous Light Cycles has re-imagined the 2023 experience here in Adelaide. This new creation is a different vibe with a more reflective atmosphere. Countless twinkling magical lights dance to beautiful music, on the water and amongst the plants, intertwined with nature.
Tips for Families:
- Wear comfy shoes – you’ll be walking all around the gardens. The distance covered is greater than previous years.
- It’s very dark in many parts and the paths can be uneven. We’d recommend using a torch along the dark paths if you have trouble seeing in the dark.
- Rug up super well. Here’s your chance to get out the thermals, beanies, hooded parkas, scarfs. Perhaps dress your kids in something bright to spot them easier.
- Make sure you take the pram if you have smaller kids as little legs will get tired of all the walking. Most of it is fairly flat but there is one spot where there’s a bit of an incline to walk up.
- The pram is also good if you have a ‘runner’ – it will be hard to see them in the dark if they run off, and remember there is a lake there.
- Keep the kids close or hold their hand in dark areas so they don’t get lost. Did we mention it’s dark?
- Pack an umbrella just in case.
- About 2/3 along the route, there’s a toilet stop if you need, and the Botanic Garden cafe is there if you feel like a drink or snack.
IMPORTANT: The start of Resonate is at the North Terrace entrance of the Botanic Garden (not Frome Rd as in previous years) on the corner of North Terrace and East Terrace.
This provides more parking options and is closer to public transport.

Base Camp is conveniently located across the road in the parklands off East Tce and is the perfect place to stop before or after your visit. There’s a great choice of hot food, donuts, fairy floss, hot and cold drinks, plus beer and wine. There’s indoor seating as well as an outdoor area featuring numerous fire pits.
