Illuminate Adelaide 2026 | Best Family-Friendly Events & Things to Do with Kids

Illuminate Adelaide returns from 1–19 July 2026, lighting up the city with a program of immersive light, art and sound installations.

Set across the CBD and beyond, the festival brings together large-scale installations, music, technology and a mix of ticketed experiences alongside plenty of free events to explore.

If you’re looking for things to do in Adelaide this winter, during the July school holidays, Illuminate Adelaide is an easy one to add to the list – especially for families, with lots of options that work well with kids of all ages.

What is Illuminate Adelaide?

Illuminate Adelaide is a city-wide winter program made up of multiple events, installations and performances. Rather than being a single event, it’s a series of experiences that run across different locations, combining light, art, music and technology.

Some are large, ticketed experiences, while others are free to wander through at your own pace.

Best Illuminate Adelaide Events for Kids

The more open, walk-through style events tend to work best with younger kids, while older kids often enjoy the bigger, more immersive ticketed experiences. Check out: Augmented Games, Night Visions, Digital Abyss, Universal Kingdom: Ice Age, and City Lights.

Free Illuminate Adelaide Events for Families

One of the best things about Illuminate Adelaide is City Lights – this take places in public spaces around the city and are perfect if you want a low-pressure outing – no set time, no big commitment, just arrive and explore.
