Hey Caddy’s new venue in West Lakes is a mini putt experience with elite holes that’ll keep everyone, at all levels, entertained.

Mini golf has become a favourite family pastime of ours.
And, as we discovered, Hey Caddy’s new course in West Lakes is one of SA’s best.
We somehow timed our visit to the indoor venue on a chilly, rainy day, which made it even more perfect – keeping the kids active and entertained in less than perfect weather.
The 18-hole mini golf course is situated within the former ‘Magarey’ function room, above the SANFL’s Mosaic Hotel.
Also inside the 1000 sqm venue are six golf simulators – part of X-Golf – a full-service kitchen, and fully licensed bar. (I wouldn’t mind coming back to try the simulators, even though I’ve never swung a real golf club before; they look like fun!)
But back to the all-important mini golf … The course at West Lakes is the second – and biggest – South Australian venue for the franchise. (Hey Caddy also has venues interstate.)
You can choose to play nine or 18 holes, and booking options include Mini Putt Family and Hey Caddy packages, with drinks and pizza included.
It’s up to you whether you decide to keep score on your way around or just enjoy having a hit. (If you’re competitive, like our family, you’ll take the scorecard!)
What’s really fun about the course is that instead of the entire place having one theme, each hole is themed differently.
There are holes themed by destinations, including the pyramids in Egypt, Venice’s canals, the Big Apple (hello, Carrie Bradshaw), Peru’s Machu Picchu, and even a Melbourne laneway.
Then there are other fun themes, such as hot air ballooning, Mexico’s Day of the Dead holiday, and bullfighting. Each hole has a spiel to coincide with each theme, and I got a kick out of those with celebrity references.
Like the Mars-themed hole, which read: “The red planet seems to go on forever around you … Where’s Matt Damon when you need him?”, referencing The Martian film. Then there’s the prison-themed hole, reading: “Can you escape Alcatraz? Sean Connery found a way!”
There are some cool challenges too, like the Area 51-themed hole, where you have to drop a ball in a box to start a timer, then try to beat it.
With the venue’s low lighting, it also has a great vibe for a date night or a night out with your mum or dad friends.
Hey Caddy is open from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week.

What we like about it

- Good all-year-round venue being indoors
- The course has good challenges and colourful, fun themes
Things to consider
If you go at a busier time, you may have to wait between holes for the players before you to finish their turn.
