Lucky Dumpling Market is back for the OzAsia Festival and is better than ever.
Review by Adaire Prosser
The Lucky Dumpling Market Asian-inspired food festival is back in Elder Park for 2024. With entertainment, a wide range of food stalls and plenty of shady seating options, make sure you don’t miss out.
If dumplings aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other family friendly food options including noodles, bao buns, chicken skewers, pancakes, burgers and lots of sweet treats.
To enter, there are gates on King William Road (across from the tram stop) or on the Riverbank. Entry is free, and there is no need to book before going. Prams are welcome for bringing young ones.
We attended on a Saturday afternoon and tried the Bao Buns from Sooki La La; Karaage Chicken Skewers and Cheesy Takoyaki from Matsuri Japanese; and Nepalese dumplings from Namaste Momo Hut.
After, we treated ourselves to a chocolate ice cream from Shubui Dessert Bar and Toast in a cup and a Gelati Brioche Bun from Kaya Desserts.
Going in the afternoon, it was easy to find a table and to see the entertainment on stage. We didn’t have to queue for long which was great with the kids. There was also lots of space for them to run around and to explore and find all of the mini moon lanterns around the grounds.
Brought to you by the team behind Adelaide Fringe venue Gluttony, there are so many delicious options that multiple visits are recommended to try it all!
Play & Go’s Tips on what to take to the Market:
- a debit or credit card, as all food, drink and merchandise purchases are via EFTPOS.
- a refillable water bottle, to drink from the free water stations.
- a picnic blanket – while there are plenty of tables and chairs, these are in high demand at peak times, but there is plenty of grass to sit on.
- sun protection for during the day eg hats, shirts, sunscreen – while there are multiple shade structures (umbrellas over tables and a tent), Elder Park is in full sun during the day.
- warm layers for the evenings – there is a cool breeze off the river.
- It’s fenced all around but remember the river is nearby so keep an eye on kids.
- Entry is FREE and bookings are not needed.
- To avoid peak times, try going on weekdays and in the afternoon (before 6pm).
