YOAH: Adelaide Fringe 2025 Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars for stunning circus acts with innovative lighting and video
Review by Claire Davill
YOAH is the latest offering from Japan’s Cirquework, a contemporary circus company that elevates their stunning acrobatics and circus acts with clever use of lighting, projection, sound and video. The result is a feast for the senses.
The show is dominated by impressive diabolo performances, becoming more intricate as the show progresses. You’ve never seen diabolo like this before, the light up sticks and flying diabolos are just the beginning. The screen behind the performers, a riot of light and patterns, mirrors and morphs to the diabolo’s movements until you can’t tell what is physical and what is digital.
The expert lighting and sound also enhances the other performances, including aerial silks, hoops and rope swings. Innovative juggling using sand-weighted balls and a jaw-dropping, tense chair stacking act will have you on the edge of your seat (while the performer is also balancing on the edge of his seat!).
YOAH is family friendly and the acts will delight children, but the slower pace of the show, together with the dramatic theatre, lighting and sound may not be suitable for very young kids.
