Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji

Over the weekend my family (2 adults and 2 kids aged 5 & 7) visited Melbourne for a family wedding. With a couple of hours up our sleeves and lively kids in tow, we decided to check out the latest event by Fever Up, Bubble Planet.

The Bubble Planet is described as a “voyage through fantastical, pastel landscapes designed to appeal to all 5 senses“.

Located in the inner-city suburb of Brunswick in a big warehouse style building, Bubble Planet certainly knows how to attract a crowd! We visited on a Thursday morning at 10am and were fortunate enough to score a free park a couple of minutes from the venue. Visiting at this time also meant that we got there before the morning rush and the venue was relatively calm and able to be explored without too many other families.

Moving through the experience the first room we entered was an LED under the sea world with sea creatures galore swimming underneath our feet. This was particularly fun for my youngest daughter who absolutely loves sea creatures.

Moving on from this room we then visited a space containing a sea of pink balloons that you need to wade through to get to the other side. This room was really fun as it was easy to get lost in the balloons but because it is a small space it still feels safe for parents and children. We visited this room twice and the first time it was calm and fun but the second time towards the end it felt a bit chaotic because there were a few boisterous children running through the area. We also found our children loved this room so much at the end we had to physically carry them out because there was no other way they were leaving!

Moving on from the pink balloons there was a small room with a small number of metallic balloons which my daughters quickly ran through. We then visited a huge room with potentially Australia’s largest ball pit. This room required you to take off your shoes to enter and climb down the stairs into the ball pit space. This room was such a novelty for kids and adults as you could almost swim through the ball pit and immerse yourself in the ball pit of fun. This room likely had the most wow factor and was very popular with kids of all ages.

Moving further in through the experience we found a small room with soap bubbles that you walk through, a big bubble tent and a photo op room where kids (and adults) can jump into a bathtub filled with rubber duckies, climb into a pretend washing machine as well as a few other cool concepts. There was also a virtual reality room set up with bubble chairs that was an additional cost to experience. At the end of the experience you are lead through to a small café, gift shop and an area where kids can colour in various fish drawings and bring them to life on the big screen.

The experience lasts between 60-90 minutes but it really depends on your child and their interests. Our kids went through all the rooms within 40 minutes initially and then went back to enjoy more time in their favourite rooms. The most notable ones for us were the under the sea world, the pink balloon room and the giant ball pit.

So what did we think of the experience overall? We honestly loved it from start to finish. We went in with zero expectations and this event had us smiling, giggling and capturing fun photos and memories that we can reminisce on for years to come. We loved that the event was so interactive and provided so many opportunities for adults and kids to play together. We also loved that this was an indoor activity because at the time of our visit Melbourne was cold, wet and windy.

If you are thinking of booking a ticket, it’s suitable for all ages but we found it perfect for our 5 and 7 year olds. If possible, try to go on a week day and avoid peak times for a calmer experience. Also make sure everyone wears socks so that you can fully enjoy the experience.

What we like about it

  • we liked the entire experience from start to finish. we loved how interactive it was and especially liked swimming through the ball pit

Things to consider

  • This experience can get busy during peak times and could feel a little chaotic with multiple families competing for space

Coffee and food options nearby

  • This experience is located in Brunswick so you have heaps of coffee and food options nearby. We stopped past Ona Coffee before hand, which we loved. Great quality coffee in a nice setting
