William Morris Winter Wonderland | Carrick Hill | Review

If you’re looking for a relaxed winter evening out, William Morris Winter Wonderland at Carrick Hill is a lovely experience.

As darkness falls, the beautiful façade of historic Carrick Hill is transformed into a moving canvas of colourful projections inspired by the iconic designs of William Morris. The projections feature intricate flowers, birds and flowing patterns that bloom across the walls of the house, accompanied by a gentle musical soundtrack that creates a wonderfully calming atmosphere.

The projections run on an approximately 20-minute loop, so there’s no need to rush. Wander around to take in the projections from different angles, then settle in on the lawn to watch it all unfold. Small tables and chairs, complete with colourful lamps, are dotted across the grounds, creating inviting little spaces to sit back, relax and soak up the experience with a drink in hand. It’s the kind of event that’s just as enjoyable for a date night or catch-up with friends.

If you’re visiting with children, we’d recommend packing a picnic blanket and perhaps a few quiet games. There’s plenty of open lawn where kids can stretch their legs while the adults enjoy the projections, making it an easy-going evening rather than one where you feel the need to keep moving.

Food and drinks are available from the new outdoor eatery, with options including warming hot drinks, Italian hot chocolate, doughnuts, fries and sausage rolls, while kids can enjoy fried chicken and chips. Delicious Mulled Wine and local wines are also available at the pop-up bar if you’re after something a little more indulgent.

Before you leave, be sure to pop into the gift shop. It’s filled with beautiful William Morris-inspired homewares, clothing, jewellery, books and children’s gifts, making it well worth a browse.

Parking was plentiful during our visit, and with the relaxed atmosphere, spacious grounds and projections looping throughout the evening, you can simply arrive, find a spot and enjoy the experience at your own pace.
