The Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA) is a great place to introduce kids to art, with an incredible collection, family-friendly exhibitions and plenty of opportunities to get creative.
For families, The Studio is a highlight – a dedicated creative space where children can make their own art inspired by works and exhibitions in the Gallery. AGSA also runs Start at the Gallery, a free program for children aged 3–12 and their families, plus Neo, a popular after-hours program designed especially for teens.
With free general entry, regularly changing exhibitions and hands-on activities for kids, the Art Gallery of South Australia is one of Adelaide’s best family-friendly cultural attractions and an easy addition to a day out in the city.

WHAT’S ON AT THE ART GALLERY OF SA
During October 2026, people can get creative outdoors with AGSA’s free En Plein Air SA program, with curated painting locations at some of South Australia’s most beautiful gardens, galleries and historic places. Register for a free guide, choose a location and create your own artwork inspired by the changing light, colours, textures and wildlife around you – just like the Impressionists. There will also be special artist-led workshops and experiences at selected venues, and you can upload your finished masterpiece for the chance to win a Monet to Matisse prize pack.
