Woorabinda Lake and Reserve | Review

If you’re heading to the hills and looking for somewhere to take the kids that’s close to Stirling, try a leisurely visit to Woorabinda Lake. It is tucked into the side streets of Stirling, next to the Railway line. You can walk down Ethel Street to access the Lake and Reserve or drive for about 2 minutes, heading down Mabel Street which turns into Woorabinda Drive where there is a small amount of off-street parking available directly out the front.

Duck Feeding

The setting is very peaceful and there are a lot of ducks to feed! Remember NOT to feed ducks bread (particularly mouldy bread), popcorn, chocolate, avocado, citrus fruit, garlic or onion.

If your kids want to feed the ducks, it is a lovely experience. Here’s some ideas about what to feed them: wheat, barley, uncooked oats, birdseed, grapes, earthworms, mealworms, chopped lettuce or vegetable trimmings or duck feed pellets.

Walking Trails

It is an easy stroll right around the lake and there are a variety of birds to keep a lookout for. There is a bird hide on the opposite side of the lake where you can sit quietly and watch the lovely birds. There is a poster in the hide which shows which birds frequent the area. You might even be lucky enough to spot a Superb Fairywren.

There are a mixture of walking trails and boardwalks which are quite relaxing to wander. The main trail around the lake feeds off into other trails which take you to different reserves.

Other things of interest

If you head to Woorabinda on a Wednesday, you are likely to see miniature remote-controlled yachts buzzing around the lake or, you might even get a very close view of the train as it rolls by. There are also a series of trails that depart from the lake.

Tips for visiting

This is not the best place for prams (but some may manage it!) and there is no fencing around the lake plus there are jetties for the kids to wander onto, so close supervision is needed at all times. This is a great place for some simple, relaxing NATURE PLAY. There are birds to look out for, creatures in the water, bugs hiding in the grass and interesting plants.
