Out Of This World | Fringe Review
Set in the cosy Spiegel Zelt Tent, this little show tells the story of three astronauts who embark on a space mission to retrieve space rocks from one of the planets in our solar system.
The story includes tiny little snippets of information about each planet. On their journey, they encounter an alien who is actually quite friendly and helpful and the four of them travel to different planets encountering different challenges along the way.
The four enthusiastic and energetic performers managed to easily combine slapstick humour and were able to improvise quite well, particularly when interacting with the audience. Given the small space, however, they were quite polished when it came to their acrobatic skills which involved flips and jumps and also tricks using skipping ropes, a ball and hula hoops.
The performers transitioned very easily from different dance genres to acrobatics. One minute they were performing a humorous but surprisingly good ballet routine and the next, quite impressive acrobatic feats. One of the friendly astronauts even did an aerial routine which was very graceful!
One of the highlights for the kids was the smelly planet which kept making fart noises! One lucky adult audience member had to power up the spaceship by sitting on whoopee cushions which proved to be quite entertaining!
This lovely little show is a great one for the smaller kids (but even Miss 9 gave the tick of approval!). There was enough action, gentle humour, acrobatics and storytelling to keep everyone engaged and happy.
