Government House Open Day | Adelaide | 12 Oct 2025

Open Days are held twice a year at Government House and are an opportunity for members of the public to explore the residence of the Governor of South Australia, tour through the gardens and meet the Governor.

Guests will have the opportunity to view the public rooms of Australia’s oldest continuously occupied Government House. Members of the public can learn about the architectural features, artefacts, and daily operations, its history and contemporary workings, see inside the public rooms, and ask questions of knowledgeable guides.

Take a garden tour or explore the grounds on your own, taking in the beehives, which produce honey used in the Government House kitchen; the Governor’s Rose Garden, which features a stand of roses celebrating each Governor in our state’s history; the sweeping lawns, vegetable garden and ceremonial plantings, which include a descendent of the Lone Pine at Gallipoli.

The next Government House Open Day will be held in conjunction with the South Australia’s Nature Festival.  As well as exploring the beautiful house and gardens, enjoy family-friendly activities, and celebrate their connection to nature in the heart of the city.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

Please note that no parking onsite is available. There are multiple paid parking options near North Terrace, along with bus and tram stops.  The Adelaide Railway Station is also close by.
