Adelaide Botanic Garden’s July School Holidays Activities
Adelaide Botanic Garden’s stacked school holiday program is back, with holiday activities kicking off on Monday 10 July!
Adelaide Botanic Gardens will be hosting a range of activities these July school holidays including some new bird-based beauties this time around! All activities have been designed to promote fun, hands-on learning about plants, people and the environment. Parents are encouraged to book early as spots will sell out!
Prices range from FREE to $20, with running times between 1-1.5 hours. Some activities are tailored for specific age groups – check carefully whether your child is suited to each activity.

Circle Family Art Workshop | Create a picture book page!
Dates & Times: Sunday 16 July 2017 10:30am – 12pm & 1:30pm – 3pm
Age Suitability: All ages
Duration: 1.5 Hours

Note: TICKET REQUIRED FOR EACH FAMILY MEMBER
Working as a team, each family group (adults and children together) will use mixed media and collage techniques to make artwork inspired by the images from Jeannie Baker’s Circle exhibition. Together, these artworks will form the pages of a new picture book you create about of the adventures of a godwit chick as she follows her parent’s path back to “the place where mud and sand become sea”. An electronic picture book will be developed and distributed to participants after the workshop.

Create Spontaneous Nature Collage

Duration: 75 minutes

Get inspired by images from Jeannie Baker’s Circle exhibition to create your own nature-based collage artwork. You’ll collect a range of natural materials on a scavenger hunt and combine these with coloured paper, paints, fibres and other mixed media to create your own masterpiece. Each artwork will be photographed before you leave and added to a virtual exhibition that you can share with friends and family. Bird Brain!

Who are you calling “Bird Brain”? Some of the cleverest animals are birds! To celebrate the Botanic Gardens hosting Jeannie Baker’s latest exhibition, Circle, join Charles Darwin on a musical adventure exploring the relationship between birds and the habitats in which they dwell. In exploring fascinating adaptations to rainforests, wetlands, and deserts, the fantastically feathered provide an awesome understanding of the natural world. As the only survivors of the dinosaur family, birds also give us insight into the world in which T. Rex once stomped and roared! Meet at the Bicentennial Conservatory north entry. Garden Critters
Dates & Times: Thursday 13 July 2017 1:30pm – 2:30pm | Thursday 20 July 2017 1:30pm – 2:30pm
Age Suitability: 6-12 year olds
Duration: 1 Hour

Take a guided walk in the Garden to collect curious botanic bits such as seedpods and leaves, then create a cute critter to take home. Due to use of hot glue gun during workshop, parents/carers must work with their children at all times; children under 6yrs cannot be admitted into the activity. Will be held in the Lecture Theatre of the Goodman Building. Bookings Essential.
Making Fire, Making Glue
Dates & Times: Tuesday 18 July 2017 1:30pm – 2:30pm
Age Suitability: All ages
Duration: 1 Hour
Price: FREE | NO BOOKINGS REQUIRED
Learn how Aboriginal people make fire using just what is around them in the Australian bush. Make your own glue from plants! Meet on the Schomburgk Pavilion unless it’s raining, in which case it will be held in the Lecture Theatre of the Goodman Building. No bookings required.
Dreaming Story Telling

Listen to Aboriginal Dreaming stories and understand what they can teach us about life. Learn how to identify tracks and traces in the environment. Meet at the Lecture Theatre, Goodman Building. No bookings required.
