Sunflower Picking at Atkins Farm | Meadows | Review
Soak up the sun, pick pretty flowers and take some cute snaps with your family amongst the sunflowers at Atkins Farm.

Can you think of anything more soul soothing than visiting fields filled with big yellow sunflowers? We couldn’t! So we got dressed, packed up the car and headed for the hills on an impromptu sunflower filled day trip.

Located in the pretty little Adelaide Hills town of Meadows, sits Atkins Farm. You turn in off Battunga Road, follow the signs and after passing some fields, farmers and hay, eventually pull up and park beside your final destination. As you make you way past the farm gate, you are greeted by the lovely owners and given some guidelines on picking the best flowers and making the most of your day.
There are props on hand, some secateurs and many, many fields of sunflowers for you to enjoy. Cute little photo areas are filtered throughout the paddock including chairs, arbours, signs and even a rustic swing that is perfect for kids.

Visiting with four little girls aged between five and eight, it was so special to see their excitement as they approached the giant flowers. Some of the sunflowers were taller than they were and it was beautiful watching them play and hand pick a small selection of flowers. Not only were the fields dopamine inducing to be in, the girls loved finding little ladybugs hidden in the flowers, taking turns on the swing and running across the fields.

Before we knew it our hour was up and it was time to make our way back to the car, with a bucket of flowers, a phone filled with sweet photos and priceless memories made.

If you have been thinking of visiting a flower farm over the summer but are still sitting on the fence, this is the sign that you need. Not only is this a fun activity and a beautiful site to behold, it’s a great opportunity to capture precious moments on film. We had a fantastic experience at Atkins Farm and can’t recommend them enough.

What we liked about it:
- Seeing so many sunflowers, the cute props filtered throughout the fields, the warmth of the owners and it was fun having a reason to visit Meadows
Things to consider
- You are visiting a field of flowers, expect some bees, insects and ladybugs
- Make sure you read the FAQs on the website and wear closed toe shoes
- There is no shade so take a hat or umbrella on hot days and if you visit on an overcast day don’t forget a jacket as the hills are often a few degrees cooler
- There are no toilets on site but you are a few minutes away from the centre of town and a public toilet
Coffee and food options nearby
- Make sure you visit Pik A Pie before or after your visit for a baked treat. They also have a small indoor and outdoor kids play area (aimed at younger kids)
