Atura airport hotel

The family-friendly Atura Adelaide Airport Hotel is the perfect choice for early morning flights with kids!

Review by Angelica-Hazel Toutounji

The Atura Adelaide airport hotel is comfortable, convenient and provided the perfect pre-flight stay for our family to avoid early morning crankiness with kids and a smooth start to our travel day.

I am going to be honest and say prior to this stay I didn’t think too much about airport hotels and despite noticing the Atura on every airport visit, it wasn’t on my radar as somewhere I needed to visit. However, with an early morning flight looming and the thought of waking up at the crack of dawn and dealing with cranky kids, I had the epiphany to look into a stay and boy, am I glad I did! Not only did staying the night before make our travel so much easier, it was such a novelty for the kids and added to the pre-holiday excitement!

Pulling into the Atura Adelaide Airport our first impressions were that it was funky, industrial and had a bit of a retro feel with pops of yellow and geometric designs dotted through out the hotel. To check in we were greeted by friendly staff and guided through the process of using their computers to grab our room cards. Looking around on a Wednesday afternoon we were surprised to see that the hotel was a hive of activity with patrons eating, drinking and playing pool on the ground floor.

We decided to make our way up to our room and we were pleasantly surprised with what we found. The rooms are paired back and minimalist in design with concrete walls and ceilings, wooden panels and huge windows that make the space feel light and bright. We opted for a family room with a bunk bed and king bed set up. Our daughters instantly got excited seeing the bunk beds and loved climbing up and down and making themselves comfortable in their new space.

The beds are all in the same room but the king bed is positioned in the corner giving you a little bit of space, allowing you to feel like you aren’t on top of each other. There is also a small table and chairs setup and a large lounge positioned by the window. Besides the bunk beds, what stood out the most in our room was that the beds and pillows were SO comfortable, which is often not the case for hotel stays. If you have kids that love plane spotting its important to note that this room type doesn’t have runway views. If that is your priority you can opt for a runway view room with two queen beds side by side.

Shortly after checking in, we made our way next door to the FREE Vickers Vimy Exhibition which is well worth a visit. We then made a bee line for a feed at the Hangar Bar and Grill. We had a great experience at this restaurant and it was surprisingly kid friendly too! As soon as we sat down the staff were kind enough to offer our kids colouring in pencils so they could do the word find, maze and colour in the plane on the back of the kid’s menu. At the time of our stay (June 2026) they were offering a $15 kids meal with juice or soft drink and ice cream. Our kids picked the fish and chips which was decent in size, came with a small salad and they both said was very tasty. My husband enjoyed the southern fried chicken burger and I had the green goddess salad. All of our meals were delicious and they were able to accommodate multiple dietary requirements for myself being gluten free and halal.

After a lovely meal we made our way upstairs, calling in to check out the gym for curiosity sake. We didn’t have time to use it but noted that there were free weights, a treadmill, elliptical trainer and a couple of stationary bikes (and a water fountain) on site. We then curled up to watch the tennis on television before getting an early night. The next morning, we called past the Hangar Bar and Grill again and enjoyed their buttermilk pancakes which were decent in size and nice and fluffy. We liked the bright feel of this restaurant but there is also Meeting Point café which offers the same menu but has a seating option right in front of the airport screen so you can be assured that you wont miss your flight or any important announcements.

Last but not least the best part about staying at this hotel is that it is literally connected to the airport. This means you can wake up, grab a bite to eat and then easily walk to the check in and bag drop area without the stress of navigating the morning traffic or dealing with cranky kids.

So as a mum of two small kids I would recommend this hotel as a great option for alleviating early morning flight stress or first flight jitters. Atura Adelaide Airport was fun, a little bit funky and as close as you can get to the Adelaide Airport for a convenient stay!
