Augmented Games | Illuminate Adelaide 2026 – interactive, digital games where you are the controller.

Augmented Games has taken over the Ridley Centre at the Adelaide Showgrounds and is the perfect indoor activity to burn some energy during the school holidays. The floor beneath you turns into a giant computer game, with eight mini games to play. Some encourage teamwork, some are individually competitive, and all will leave you out of breath as you find yourself running back and forth to score points.

Review by  Claire Davill

It’s easy to spot the brightly coloured entrance to the Ridley Centre, and once inside, you’ll see 8 separate courts for play. It doesn’t matter which court you end up on, each court has all 8 games available to play and each court has a helpful staff member supervising. There are chairs adjacent to each court to place your bags, watch your teammates or take a breather while waiting your turn.

Different games have different numbers of players, from 2 to 6. The supervising staff are great at making sure everyone gets a go if there are more people on the court. Games run for a few minutes, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities during your 60-minute session to try out all the games:

Memory – just like the memory card game, locate and step on the matching tile.

Grid – A giant game of Pong, with two players at each end, and your bar increases in length if you work well together.

Target – jump on as many white dots as possible while avoiding the red dots. Be careful when the playing field begins to rotate!

Obstacles – run back and forth as many times as you can, avoiding obstacles that move while trying to score bonus points.

Hotspot – see how fast you can dash from marker to marker along the dotted line without missing any of the markers.

Polygon – a multiplayer Pong game, with the last player to lose their hearts emerging as the winner.

Pathfinder – memorise the path along the tiles and follow it as quickly as possible, trying to beat your competitors.

Maze – work together to guide a ball into the goal, scoring bonus points along the way.

Scores appear on the scoreboard above the court, and you can see if you’ve beaten your friends, or scored the highest score of the day.

There is a spectator zone at one end of the hall, with plenty of seating and free water. A variety of food and drinks are on offer, including hot chips ($6.50), hotdogs ($7.50), pizza ($17.00), sandwiches ($11.00) and salad bowls ($12.50). There’s also coffee, softdrinks, juice, cake, and hot donuts.

What we like about Augmented Games

  • The games are suitable for all ages and abilities. Be as competitive as you want, and the concepts of all the games are simple enough for young children to understand.
  • It’s a great way to burn off some energy. You’ll be running around, lunging and hopping back and forth without realising how energetic you’ve been until the game stops and you have to catch your breath.
  • There are discounts for groups of four or more, and children under 4 are free, making it a great family activity..
  • Kids under 4 years are FREE – however, a $0.00 ticket is required for entry.
  • Each court has plenty of chairs available if you want to simply watch, or take a break.
  • While we visited, there was plenty of space for participation.

Things to consider

  • While not dark or excessively loud, the lighting is low and there is music playing. If you have sensory concerns, make sure to book one of the relaxed sessions.
  • It’s not very warm inside the centre, but you will warm up quickly. Dress in layers.
  • Wear flat-soled, enclosed shoes and comfortable clothing.
  • Parking is available onsite for a fee, or you can park nearby and walk a short distance through the Adelaide Showground to reach the Ridley Centre
