Balaklava Nature Playspace | Opened 25 Oct 2019

New ‘Sounds from the Ground’ Nature Playspace opened in Balaklava

The town of Balaklava is now home to the new ‘Sounds from the Ground’ Nature Playspace, officially opened on 25 October 2019.

The playspace is the perfect addition to Apex Park precinct which is home to a swimming pool, skate park, community garden and bowling club. The playspace is a blend of natural elements and musical play equipment.

The new playspace is the result of a long-held vision of a nature play space in the town by Balaklava-based community group ‘Our Community Our Children’. The group has worked in conjunction with the Wakefield Regional Council and community services – the Plains Producer, Child and Family Health Service, Balaklava Community Children’s Centre and Balaklava Community Library in the transformation of the former croquet club into a children’s play space.

Features include:

  • log scramble to the jungle-inspired canopy tree hut
  • slippery slide
  • large nest swing
  • wooden xylophone
  • guitar-shaped ride or walk circuit
  • big bear playhouse
  • metal bongo drum
  • touch-interactive sound wall

In Sounds from the Ground’s case, Council matched $63,500 from the South Australian Government’s Open Space and Places for People Program.

The new playspace is an asset to the local community and will benefit children and families in the area and there are also plans to add different play spaces around the centre of the playground.
